The dark depths of Israeli ambitions for Gaza
Palestinians are deemed expendable with barely any tangible international opposition
Every day we’re faced with increasingly unhinged information about Israeli massacres in Gaza or legal residents in the US being snatched off the street, police-state style.
But we mustn’t look away.
According to many reliable sources, Israel is looking to establish concentration camps in Gaza:
This is from the self-described Jewish state and the “most moral army in the world”.

This is a new painting by Melbourne-based artist Tia Kasambalis. It’s surreal to see the work completed, the first time that I’ve been painted on this scale.
For over six-months, Tia aimed to paint both me and representations of my work on the Palestine laboratory. Within the background are smoke clouds from drones and jets flying in and round the figure. There are also parts from the F-35 fighter jet where Australia (and many Western countries) provide essential parts. These planes have been actively deployed by Israel over Gaza during its mass slaughter campaign since 7 October 2023.
I’ve known Tia for more than five years and always admired his art and style and commitment to often featuring the underprivileged and “invisible” people in our society. His work is detailed, nuanced and political.
Tia’s stunning painting will be submitted into the Archibald Art Prize, Australia’s most prestigious portrait prize. I hope it’s given the respect it deserves and highlights the ongoing outrages in Palestine being done in our name.
See the post below for many more photos and videos of this remarkable work:
My recent work has largely focused on the grim situation in the Middle East and I’ve spoken to many media outlets. There’s a small selection of my interviews below and you can see the rest on my website and YouTube channel:
My recently released film series, The Palestine Laboratory, with UK director Dan Davies, continues to traverse the world:
I’m posting details of last year’s global film shoot in eight countries (from the Middle East to India):
There’s a screening in London on 24 April where I’ll be appearing remotely:
Related to the film, in late 2024 I released with US outlet, Drop Site News a 4-part podcast series inspired by my book, The Palestine Laboratory:
This is an amazing new book, one of the most incisive written since 7 October 2023, about the moral and political collapse in the West in the last 18 months during the genocide in Gaza.
I reviewed it in The Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne Age newspapers.
Pankaj Mishra is a fine writer and intellectual who’s spent his life documenting and critiquing the ravages of colonialism. His latest book, The World After Gaza, is a powerful examination of our current moment.
I recently interviewed him in person in Melbourne, Australia about Gaza, Western collusion as well as the role and responsibility of intellectuals in times of crisis:
Uncomfortable Conversations is a popular podcast with a host who’s more sympathetic to the concept of Israel than I am. Hence why I went on his show to discuss the Middle East and anti-Semitism and it was spicy at times:
My podcast series, The Palestine Laboratory, has recently been a finalist in two major awards. My incredible team were “highly commended” at the Quill Awards in Melbourne, Australia:
At another awards ceremony, in a large cinema in Melbourne, a short clip from the podcast was played on the massive screen. It was a very powerful moment that showed the horrific carnage unleashed by Israel in Gaza:
10 years ago I published a best-selling book, Disaster Capitalism. In 2018, I released a documentary film adaption, filmed in Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Haiti, with an amazing team. It’s now widely available again for viewing:
In other news this month:
A timely discussion on the Australian media show, Fourth Estate, about the weaponisation of anti-Semitism in the service of Israel:
I spoke on a panel at a South African writer’s festival about my book on Palestine:
One of India’s leading newspapers, The Hindu, positively reviewed the Indian edition of my book, The Palestine Laboratory;
Many more translated editions of my Palestine laboratory book will be released in 2025. The next edition coming out is in Sweden in May.
Israeli defence companies are making a killing from the genocide in Gaza. It’s good for business.
I write about this phenomenon for US outlet Zeteo and what I saw when making my Palestine laboratory film series in multiple countries around the globe:
The scale of devastation in Gaza is hard to process.
This new film on Al Jazeera English, Kids Under Fire, details in powerful ways the how the Israeli military is deliberately targeting children:
As the co-founder and co-editor of Declassified Australia, an independent news outlet so please support us with $ if you can, we’ve recently published some fine journalism. My co-founder Peter Cronau wrote about the growing tensions between Australia and China and human rights lawyer Kellie Tranter on how Australia has continued to trade with Israel in a major way during its genocide in Gaza.
In these dark times, we all need to find ways to decompress and stay sane.
The UK electronic band Underworld has long been a favourite and last year they played this amazing set at the Sydney Opera House:
